Alice

Featured Volunteer

Alice, pictured, originally came to enhance as a customer, at time when we badly needed another person to help with the general running of the place. Alice came with no computer skills and can now refurbish with the best. In addition she takes over phone duty and customer service when necessary. It's her worrying skills I appreciate the most though. When computers are due out it's usually alice who has hustled us all into having them ready on time.

Volunteers

ReVamp is run by one paid employee and staffed by a small band of increasingly clever volunteers. These volunteers are predominantly retired people who have become necessary fixtures to the ongoing success of ReVamp. These people turn up early and regularly, let me know if they can't come in and generally treat the position with all the respect of a full paid job.

Volunteer Positions Available

Currently ReVamp needs a strong, healthy person with a manual driver's licence to do our pickups and deliveries. We also need someone with computer hardware experience for a few months in the middle of this year.

Young People

We get many requests to take on younger volunteers and the only fair way to deal with this is to keep a steady flow. Depending on demand we can provide 3 months work experience for 2 young people at a time. This needs to be booked. We have one position available currently (March 2012).

Notes

Volunteering can be a rewarding experience but computer hardware knowledge is never fully learned as the pace of change is so fast. ReVamp does not have the resources to provide free hardware training for all who want it. Volunteers must have a skill we need. It doesn't have to be an IT skill. In return we can train you to help us. Occasionally we are lucky enough to have people with some IT knowledge and a need to keep their hand in while looking for work. These volunteers have a mature attitude to work and leave quite a gap when they leave for paid work, as they invariable do!

Volunteers can expect to learn a fair bit about the internal workings of computers as well as the use of diagnostic tools and software. They will also learn how to install various operating systems, hardware drivers and software programs and the distinction between these.
